I facilitate quite a few ‘arty farty’ workshops at The ThreadShed Fresh East – Sew Your Own Cushion Cover, Design Your Own T-shirt (which is the most popular), Design Your Own Mug and Design Your Own Pin Badges, but my favourite is Sew Your Own Skirt. This workshop lasts up to 6 hours and costs £50 per person. This includes all you need for your skirt (fabric, thread, zip and button) and so is an absolute bargain!
This week I spent some happy hours with a gorgeous, happy mum and daughter duo, who described themselves as complete and utter novices. Mum had used a sewing machine at school but not since, and Daughter not at all.
They were happy with the fabric choices on offer, soon mastered their sewing machines, and finished their skirts in around 5 1/4 hours! I was really impressed by how they both did and there really was some beautiful sewing!
Wearing something beautiful you have made yourself is a great feeling … why not book in with someone special to you and enjoy some sewing fun in the cute pink ThreadShed too?
It was a whole series of Record Breakers this week …
1) The youngest participant in a session = just 2 years old
2) The most participants in one session – a grandma, an auntie and two adorable children = 4 ‘arty farty’ participants
3) The most sessions on one day = 3
4) The most visitors/participants in one day = 8
5) The first time that Monty Don, of Gardeners World fame, has appeared on a T-shirt leaving The ThreadShed Fresh East
A great day – I loved it all and I really hope that there will be more record Breakers to come – after all “dedication, dedication, dedication is what you need.”
I blinkin’ love weddings I really do! I’m so happy to have found the perfect dress to wear to a wedding I’m going to this week and I am excited to wear it for the first time. However it’s the little finishing touches that I have such fun with and so I made this teeny little fascinator hair slide to exactly match my fabulous new (to me) true vintage dress. I think that the fascinator is a proper feather in my cap don’t you?
It’s so sweet when loved up couples choose a visit to the ThreadShed Fresh East to celebrate something special. I’ve hosted a few couples celebrating their anniversary and this fabulous couple came along to celebrate their one year anniversary … their designs were very different but each left with a T-shirt they were proud of! Many congratulations to them and I hope they come back and celebrate year 2 with me too ❤️
Well I’ve been having a pretty fun time in The ThreadShed over the holidays with lots of lovely visitors getting all arty farty …
First up was the very lovely Emily who enjoyed designing a cute tee for her little sister…
And just as Emily was leaving this gorgeous pair of holiday-makers arrived. They were visiting the area with their mummy and daddy, who very gratefully snuck off for a scrummy lunch, at our fabulous village pub, the Freshwater Inn, whilst the children enjoyed being T-shirt designers …
Both sets of visitors wrote in my brand new “Leave Me a Beautiful Message” book! I must remember to ask all my customers to do this because, after all, life needs to be filled with beautiful messages don’t you think?
When your lovely sister buys you glamorous satin pyjamas that have extra long sleeves and legs and you feel so fabulous in them that you decide they just HAVE to be monogrammed ❤️
So… it’s my birthday today and I always get very excited for my birthday gift off The Husband. He is so blinkin’ creative and always surprises me with something extraordinary and very unique that he has made me.
This year was no exception as I received this beautiful present created with the pyrography iron that I bought him for his birthday.
This stunning guitar is going to look absolutely spectacular as an original piece of art hanging on my living room wall but do you know I may even learn to strum a few chords in honour of the fact that this is the first time ever EVER EVER that my portrait has been burnt into a guitar … now how cool is that? ❤️
One of the things I just love about getting ‘arty farty’ to design your own T-shirt is that each and every T-shirt leaving the ThreadShed is utterly unique and personal to the visiting designer. Holidaymakers come to me with a headful of ideas and together we play with online images, and use the Silhouette software, to turn their raw ideas into great T-shirt designs.
This week a father and son team turned their back on simple stock images and instead drew their own images. Each individual drawing represented an activity during their holiday in glorious Pembrokeshire. There were drawings of their Airbnb jet plane accommodation (complete with a PlayStation in the cockpit), a fun game of football golf, a kayaking adventure through caves, and of course a visit to The ThreadShed, and all were were drawn by the super bright and creative 7 year old holidaymaker and his Dad. The images came straight out of his imagination and a stack of coloured pencils.
Now that’s the way to remember a great holiday huh?
Sometime I am entrusted with important sewing tasks … such as taking the hem up on an exquisite wedding dress, or altering the waist on a beautiful prom dress. I understand that handing over any item of clothing to a dress-maker for alteration requires trust and confidence, even more so when the clothing has special memories attached and belonged to someone who is greatly loved and missed.
This week I was entrusted with the cardigan of a husband, father and grandfather and his memories have been loved and treasured by his family for many years. His much loved cardigan was often worn by him and features in photographs with not only his own children but also his grandchildren. His cardigan has been so very precious to the family and of course represents happy memories, sweet sentiment, big smiles and huge love.
After a visit to The ThreadShed the cardigan has been transformed into ‘Dado’s Pillow’ and instead of being tucked away in a drawer can be kept on the sofa to bring cuddles and comfort to his family at all times.
Many thanks to his daughter Hannah for her trust in me and for understanding what a precious birthday gift it would be for her Mam. I really hope that Dado is smiling down on his family and enjoying the transformation of the cardigan that he adored so much ❤️
