Tickled by Feathers…

Every so often I get gifted things to get all ‘arty farty’ with. Yesterday I was so excited when my lovely neighbour popped over to tell me that she had got her dad’s old trunk out of the attic and did I want to take a look. Of course I was gazing adoringly into the trunk practically before she had even finished her sentence, as it was absolutely filled to the brim with beautiful feathers, sparkly trims and chenille wools, and I really mean filled to the brim.

It transpired that my neighbour’s dad had been a passionate fisherman and the colourful contents of the trunk had been used for making his own flies and lures. I saw some examples of his work and they were an art form in their own right.

I had a glorious afternoon playing with the feathers and trims. I added in some of my vintage buttons and ric-rac, and I used my vintage daisy wheel to make flowers with the chenille. I am absolutely chuffed to bits with my first creations – two gorgeous, rockabilly fascinators.

So here’s to the proud and creative fisherman Lewis John Jenkins. I really hope that he is fishing at the end of the horizon somewhere stunning and smiling happily over his life’s collection being used in a very different ‘arty farty’ kinda way. ❤️

Button Art …

I simply adore buttons. I have a shoebox filled with them. I think I inherited the button-loving gene from my clever, creative Mam as she always had a tin for buttons and a tin for zips (and yes of course I also have a tin for zips too). My buttons are all colour sorted, and some are beautiful, some are ordinary, some are vintage, and some are absolutely glorious. The Husband teases me a little about my button collection but I know he loves me and my quirky button loving ways.

The Husband didn’t need to prove his love as he does this every day in every way, but if I did need proof then he hit the jackpot with this wonderful, original, button art skull made from just some of my adorable button collection …

Truly no ThreadShed should be without a button skull ❤️

Bic Biro Bowling …

A little while ago Trashcan Emporium created our first fabric using lots of Lee’s Bic Biro Skull drawings for the design which we uploaded and ordered at the Spoonflower website. As we were attending a purple themed wedding yesterday I decided to use some of the fabric on a unique bowling shirt for Lee. Each individual drawing has Lee’s signature to it and there are 9 different skull drawings on the fabric in total.

I used a very versatile pattern by McCall’s, which mean that I could literally use this pattern hundreds of times and never make two shirts the same! However, I am in the middle of sewing another exactly the same for someone very special on the other side of the world ❤️

Do you love this shirt too? Or can you see it in different fabrics or colour? I’m happy to make these shirts to order so let me know if you’d like one made for you too!

Wear your art on your Tee …

I absolutely love adding a few new T-Shirt designs to our collection! Brother-in-law came to visit this weekend and is a fan of the ‘old skool’ Tattoo style art. We found some great pieces in Lee’s drawing book in and I was able to add them onto some T-shirts for him to take back to London. Inspired by the new designs I decided it was time to make myself a new Tee too and used Lee’s flaming heart and dagger drawing that I received as my Valentine Gift this year. Instead of wearing my heart on my sleeve I can now wear it on my Tee.

Don’t forget any of Lee’s art you admire can also be added to a Tee and of course will proudly bear our unique ‘Trashcan Emporium’ label.

We also have a pretty good selection of arty Tees in the studio at the mo so why not stop by and wear your art on your Tee too!

Hammer and Knife…

We sometimes have some wonderfully unusual ideas brought to us. The other day Lee had popped down Main Street and upon his return to the studio found this on the couch …

He immediately went into high alert, wondering whether gang warfare was about to commence in sleepy Pembroke, until he was advised by Woody that a customer had just brought them in to support his idea for a tattoo design.

Lee then worked his magic for this very personal and unique design …

And we had a very happy customer who got the exact tattoo that was in his head created from his personal hammer and knife…
