Space in my heart …

My first grandchild is due in about 5 weeks. I never ever imagined that he would be arriving into this world of Corona virus, isolation and lock-down. Eldest Son and his partner live almost 4 hours drive away from me and so I don’t know when I will be able to hold him for the first time. When Eldest Son was born I lived 3 hours away from my Mam but the day after he was born she jumped on a train and I swear her proud happy smile came into the hospital ward a good ten minutes before she did.

In this crazy scary world I don’t know when I will get to meet my grandson and so today I whiled away some lockdown time by gluing glorious beach treasures onto this special wooden photo frame. One side already holds his scan photo and the other side awaits his first photo.

There really is space in my heart waiting just for George ❤️

Sea diamonds …

We walk our beach most days, usually at the shoreline where the best beach treasures can be found.

The Wiki article link explains how the sea tosses and tumbles the glass, sometimes over many decades, smoothing it all off and turning the glass opaque in colour. There is also sea pottery to be found on the shores. I like to imagine all our beach pickings have come from sunken ships and lost treasures. However, the commonest finds are probably soda bottles or milk bottles.

It is often used for jewellery but The Husband has made a sea glass skull and I like to make sea glass hair slides and hair ornaments.

We picked this little hoard up in just our regular half hour walk this evening. So, next time you walk the shores, look for the sparkling sea diamonds glinting in the sunshine and if you don’t know what to do with what you find then just pass it our way for our ‘arty farty’ creations ❤️
